Greetings from the Executive DirectorThank you for visiting our web site at Northern Kentucky Montessori Center (NKMC). You have taken a first step towards insuring your child’s optimal development during what scientists know to be the most crucial years of the life of a human being, the years of birth to six. Maria Montessori, one of the first female physicians in Italy, was a brilliant, forward thinker. Like many scientists, she was on the cutting edge of discovery. Only now, 100 years after bringing her educational philosophy to the United States, is current science catching up to what she determined through years of observation and study. Montessori’s pioneering work proved that children, whether learning disabled, average or gifted, learned best when engaged in purposeful activity, rather than simply being fed information. "There are many who hold, as I do, that the most important part of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six. For that is the time when a man’s intelligence itself, his greatest implement, is being formed.” Maria Montessori, The Absorbent Mind |
